The Obio Cottage hospital Operates a Community Health Insurance Scheme (Health is Wealth) which is a public Private Partnership Initiative between Obio/Akpor local and State government of Rivers state, Shell Petroleum Development Cooperation , the Host Communities and Health Care International as the managing Health Insurance Company.
The Hospital stated as a health Centre in 1978. Then it caters for minor ailment for the people of Roumomasi, Roumobiakani, Oginigba and Roumadialu. In 2000, the state of the hospital was in shambles and turnaround maintenance was carried out by SPDC to help revive the facility.
The Vision for the Community Health Insurance Scheme was conceived in 2007 and a thorough situational analysis carried out to determine the health seeking behavior of the people and other activities to actualize the dream .The Community Health Insurance Scheme (Health Is Wealth) commenced full operation in February 2010 with about 3000 people registered on the scheme.
Premium payment is N7, 200.00 per day or N300.00 month per individual for the indigenes of Rumuobiokani, Rumuozeolu, Rumuomasi and Oginigba. While 50% of annual premium was already paid for by the GMOU Funds from the community trust for the indigenes, the non Indigenes pay a full premium of N7,200.00. |
